Creation and symbolism of Xeric's paper currency- (Scorpio)
For our country, Xeric, We chose to include the scorpion on our paper money because the scorpion is our country’s national animal. The reason the scorpion is our country’s animal is because we are located in the desert and there are thousands of scorpions out here. Another reason we chose the scorpion is because it is a very strong and independent animal. The scorpion lives on every continent except for Antarctica, this proves that the scorpion is strong and can withstand extreme circumstances. Our animal represents our country. Xeric is a strong and independent country and we are extremely successful. Our paper money is called Scorpio and comes in amounts of ones, fives, and tens. Each bill has a different picture of a scorpion on it. These pictures of scorpions are passed on the tribal tattoos of native american tribes and our money is printed in all black ink. The reason for the simple design on our paper money is because the desert is a very simple place with miles of flat sand and an endless turquoise sky. The desert has a natural beauty that is reflected in the simple design of our country’s bills.
Why paper is used for money and how it started-
Using paper money as currency first started in China around the 7th century. The way that paper money was invented was because the Chinese merchants originally carried strings of coins. These coins were round and had square holes in the middle in which they could be strung up. Eventually the string of coins would get too heavy for the merchant to carry, so they would leave the money with a highly trusted person that would watch over the money until the merchant wanted it back. This person would give the merchant a piece of paper that would say how much they had given the person and when the merchant wanted the money back, all he had to do was show them the slip with the amount of money on it and it would be given back to them. This process later evolved into what is now known as a bill or paper money. Today, paper money is made from a type of paper that is mad out of cotton fibers. These bills way about 80 to 90 grams per square meter. The reason paper money is now used more frequently than coins is because the bills are so much lighter than the coins which can weigh a couple of ounces a coin.
